Presumptive tax for goods transporters — Section 58 (old 44AE)

In short

Own up to 10 goods vehicles? Declare income on a presumptive basis — ₹1,000 per ton of gross weight per month for heavy vehicles (₹7,500/month for others) — with no books and no audit — Section 58, Income-tax Act 2025 (old 44AE).

How it works

  • Heavy goods vehicle (>12 tonnes): income = ₹1,000 × tonnage × months held.
  • Other goods vehicle: income = ₹7,500 × months held.
  • No need to maintain books or get a tax audit; you may declare higher actual income if it's more.

Conditions

  • You own 10 or fewer goods vehicles at any time in the year.
  • All deductions (incl. depreciation) are deemed already allowed.

Who it helps

Small transporters and truck owners — huge compliance saving. (Other small businesses use old 44AD; professionals old 44ADA.)
